Tourniquet kit

A tourniquet can be the difference between life and death. When severe bleeding can't be controlled with direct pressure, a properly applied tourniquet can save a life. Every second counts—be prepared before an emergency happens.

Kit

The American Red Cross explains that a tourniquet should be used to control life-threatening bleeding from an arm or leg when direct pressure is ineffective or impractical. The tourniquet should be placed 2–3 inches above the wound (avoiding joints), tightened until the bleeding stops, secured so it cannot loosen, and left in place until emergency medical personnel take over. The article also stresses calling 911 immediately, using a commercially manufactured tourniquet whenever available, and obtaining proper first aid training to learn the technique safely.
